Winner of the 2003 National Gospel Award for Best New Gospel Artist with her music debuting the public arena in late 2002, this Australian-born Chinese singer/songwriter continues to lift her audiences with her inspiring lyrical melodies and soul-searching tunes. Recognised nationally for her songwriting in 2006 through the Australian Songwriter’s Association, Deb combines honest and thought-provoking lyrics with an acoustic ballad, pop/rock flavour, with both her solo and full band performances captivating and communicating with ease to people at all stages of life. From heart warming songs such as “I Understand You Understand” through to songs of personal struggle such as “Darkest Place”, Deb’s signature theme in her music is her unquenchable joy and tenacity for life and an inner strength which pervades her music and draws her listeners into moments of reflection, rest and release – a necessary antidote in the midst of our busy 21st century existence.
Based in Sydney, Deb has just released her highly anticipated fifth album "SELAH" after three years independently touring her last album "Whoever You Are" across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. In and through this project, Deb has found a key to being able to continue to create, perform and produce music in amongst probably the most intense three years of her life. “SELAH” is the word – and the title of her album – found repeatedly in the Psalms as a side note to the reader to stop, pause, think and reflect. Through the challenges of her husband’s major spinal surgery and needing to take a year and a half back in full time corporate work, to founding her artist tour and event management company Monsoon Productions, to now expecting her first child in late Jan 2010, this album is Deb’s labour of love all the way – her solace in delving into the Psalms and their musical expression of faith, honesty and reflection. She now invites her listeners to share in her journey.

Coming from a commerce/law background, having grown up in Melbourne Australia, at 23 years of age Deb took the plunge in pursuing her passions for this career of music full time. No stranger to performance, Deb was singing and playing before audiences from the age of 8, has enjoyed the throes and woes of playing in orchestras, singing in choirs and performing in musicals all through her high school years. With her roots in Gospel songwriting, Deb has gone on to perform commercially throughout Australasia in festivals, clubs, conferences and cafes as well as her international tours throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
With her eyes focused primarily on Australia and Asia in the release of her album, Deb wishes to connect her music with her annual visits to Asia where she is involved with Aids and HIV prevention work. Just as her song “Do So Much” (Whoever You Are) urges her listeners to be proactive in their ability to respond to injustice and instigate change and positive impact, Deb’s underlying goal in her music is to stretch people in their own capacity and their own perception. Deb explains, "I write music with the intention of addressing our humanity and engaging the human spirit so we can better understand who we are and who we are becoming. We are living in a poignant time in history and I believe this generation is truly questioning what is real and what is myth. Music has a way of stripping through pretence and baring the soul. I am compelled to be honest in my songwriting and while it might be uncomfortable at times and show vulnerability, perhaps that is precisely what people need and want to feel today. It wakes us up."
